1-2 years back there was a time when text messaging was the only media and available platform in mobiles to send texts to your friends and family etc. And the telecom service providers earn lots of money from it in regular basis and also by hiking the text messaging price during various occasions like New Year, Christmas, Valentine's Day etc.
But with the revolution of technology and internet this old feature seems to be obsolete as no one is interested to pay a single buck to the telecom provider for text messaging. What's App, Facebook, Skype have changed the meaning of text messaging, where the end user just pay few bucks for an internet plan and uses their services like text messaging, even calling feature of Skype flawlessly. Due to the increasing popularity of these technologies the telecom companies bear a heavy loss.
And this might be a reason why the telecom companies like AirTel, Vodafone want to regulate the internet market.
Another reason may be the big players of the internet market.
Like if XYZ company makes a deal with AirTel that AirTel will provide only internet connection to open XYZ's site and no other sites will be opened, and this deal may be backed with a huge amount of money for the profit of XYZ company.
If the telecom company starts providing internet connection for particular websites and apps then there will be no freedom for you to choose what you want to see and what you want to purchase.
Lets take an example; If Vodafone makes a pact with Flipkart then it will provide internet only for Flipkart and not for eBay or Amazon so when you are buying something online then there is no option for you to choose from except Flipkart. So this is how the telecom companies and the big players of Internet market is trying to snatch your freedom.
Net Neutrality is a movement where people opposes this amendment of government of India from granting the full access to the telecom companies to snatch your freedom away.
Internet is a very powerful tool today, it has crossed the phase of luxury and acquired the phase of necessity. This is the only media where you can express your feelings freely, where you can learn whatever you want, this is the media where a mother sitting in a rural area of India can talk with her son residing in America.
You are controlling the internet means you are controlling the economics of the country, you are controlling the minds of a country and no one in the country is free basically you are snatching the freedom from each and every people.
